Giln
Little is known about the newest addition to the System. Seemingly taciturn to the more voluble races, the Giln have shared the barest minimum about their social and biological make-up. Their recalcitrance paired with the race's uniform appearance feeds prejudices of the more suspicious members of the System.
Characteristics
1.1 Physical
With a slim build that one might call 'willowy', the adult Giln stands between 1.6 to 1.8 meters tall. There are virtually no abnormalities or variances. The elongated arms and legs create a certain grace to all movements that is echoed in a Glin's long neck. The smooth, ovoid skull is nearly featureless, except for small dark eyes that are nearly all pupil and surprisingly large ears.
Hands consist of two phalanges and opposable thumb, feet are bifurcated with digits that fall just short of being hoof-like.
Skin is smooth and apparently hairless, varying little from tan shade of spring green.
1.2 Vision
Outside of the easily observed size an colour, little is known about the quality or mechanics of Giln vision.
1.3 Hearing
For a race that traditionally communicates sub-vocally/outside the common range of sound--and possibly telepathically--Giln hearing appears be comparative to any other people. The assumption is that the range of sound audible to a Giln extends beyond average, without any degradation in the 'normal' range.
1.5 Olfactory
Nothing is known about Giln olfactory abilities. It is presumed that the Giln posess something along the lines of the ability to smell. This is based on observations of Giln commenting on the qualities of smells, though it is possible that their comments are purely based on intellectual observation. There is no recorded observation of a Giln reacting in one of the universal modes; covering olfactory organ with appendage, crinkling area around olfactory organ, or avoiding the area around objects that give off unpleasant odors.
1.6 Reproductive
Nothing is known about Giln reproductive abilities. Children have the same proportions as adults, suggesting something other than live birth. There are no clear gender markers. The number and types of genders that exist, or are needed for reproduction are not known. Many people refer to individual Giln as "she", which seems to be the accepted pronoun, though it is very probably nowhere near accurate.
1.7 Speech
It is generally accepted that the Giln communicate among themselves sub-vocally or outside of the common range of sound. Some theorists propose that their communication is closer to telepathy (which would make the Giln the only known race to communicate that way), and that their range of hearing and projection is admirable. All Giln who socialise, live and work around the other races of the System wear a aural synthesiser, which translates their mode of speech to audible waves.
